Rainy Goodale took first place in the 50 meter breaststroke at the Japan Masters Sprint swim meet this weekend with a time of 36.74 seconds. Ms. Goodale is a member of Martha’s Vineyard Masters and the head coach of the Makos swim team at the YMCA. The meet was attended by more than 3,000 swimmers, mainly from Japan and other Asian countries.

To win the breaststroke race in the 45-49 age group, Ms. Goodale beat Japan’s Keiko Okamoto by .03 seconds. In 2014, Okamoto was ranked sixth in the FINA World Masters Championships for the 50 meter breaststroke in her age group, and Ms. Goodale was ranked ninth. Ms. Goodale also placed second in the 100 meter individual medley and 50 meter butterfly, and third in the 100 meter breaststroke. She swam in three relays, earning first place in the 4 x 25 meter women’s freestyle relay and the 4 x 25 meter mixed medley relay, and second place in the 4 x 25 meter mixed free relay.
