On Thursday, Sept. 17, join artist Carol Maguire for a painting demonstration at North Water Gallery in Edgartown from 1 to 3 pm. According to a press release, the painter, inspired by a love for color, china, textiles, and gardening, focuses her work on objects that surround her daily life, including family treasures, gifts from friends, and garage sale finds, all in combination with nature’s glorious fruits and flowers.
“I am in constant search for the image that best reflects my voice, an image that matches my emotional and spiritual journey, always seeking the perfect balance of light and color. Why do I paint? It’s my creative voice, the expression of my outlook on life. I paint to capture a moment in my life … through my eyes.”
Ms. Maguire holds a bachelor’s in art history from Fairfield University, and has furthered her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Sorbonne, the Barnes Foundation, and Fleisher Art Memorial.
The artist started painting full-time and showing her work after 9/11. Her extensive travels have brought her to India, Peru, Romania, Guatemala, and Honduras, where she has taught her artistic skills to indigenous people. She now teaches paintings workshops in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, two or three times a year.
Prior to her full-time painting career, Ms. Maguire spent her early years as a quilter, professional doll maker, furniture designer, and dinnerware designer for Lenox China under the Dansk and Kate Spade brands. She is represented at galleries in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Maine, and Martha’s Vineyard.
