To the Editor:
I would like to provide the residents of Edgartown an update of the work going on at the Post Office. I am the landlord at the building where the Edgartown Post Office is located, and where some new apartments are being developed above. As most of you know, our contractor removed the roof and was erecting the new structure when the weather hit hard, and the tarp system proved inadequate. We had significant leaking below, and as a result the Post Office had to temporarily relocate to the old library in Edgartown.
First, I want to apologize for the inconvenience and distraction that this has caused. We want nothing more than to have everything back to normal for all of you. We appreciate the patience that you have shown, and the support and rapid response that the Post Office and the Town of Edgartown have shown through the temporary relocation.
Second, I would like to give you a quick update on the work. We want the Post Office to be completely dried, safe, restored, and renovated. The contractor has been working around the clock to get this problem solved. Nearly every wall and ceiling in the place has been removed so the building can be properly dried. In the next few weeks, it will be reinsulated, rebuilt, repainted, and brought up to date with new energy-efficient lighting, some minor reconfiguration, and a brand-new floor.
I love Edgartown, and although humbled by the experiences this month, look forward to providing Edgartown some much-needed housing, and a Post Office that you can be proud of.
