The YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard Orca swim team competed in a Special Olympics event at Bridgewater State University on April 22. Twenty-five athletes took part and brought home several gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard backstroke.
The Orcas are coached by Elizabeth Lytle, Alexander Lytle and Jen Passafiume. This is the team’s sixth year of competing. Swimmers are aged 12 to 53.
The Orca team is part of the Y’s Special Olympics program that is free to all ages and abilities, supported through community donations.
