Freshman hockey player Hunter Ponte scored his first two high school goals against Somerset/Berkley at the Driscoll Arena in Fall River on Saturday, in a game which ended in a 3-3 tie.

Sophomore Jacob Gundersen got the scoring started with 36 seconds left in the first period on a power-play goal, assisted by Tristan Araujo and Joshua Forend. Somerset evened the game at 1 early in the second period, then freshman Hunter Ponte scored his first goal at 13:45 of the second period, assisted by Joe Davies.Somerset would again even up the game late in the second period to head into the final period deadlocked at 2-2.

The third period started pretty evenly. Hunter scored his second career goal at the 13:04 mark. Unassisted, he went hard to the opposing net and won the battle, scoring the go-ahead goal. Unfortunately, Somerset would tie the game again, with the teams skating off the ice at 3-3.

Senior goaltender Wyatt Jenkinson had 19 saves in the game, and preserved the tie with a breakaway save in the last minute. The team is now 4-7-3, and hosts EAC rival Coyle & Cassidy on Saturday night at 6:10 pm. The junior varsity is off-Island versus Falmouth on Thursday, then hosts Coyle & Cassidy before the varsity game on Saturday.
