The most successful baseball season in Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) history came to an end with a 4-1 loss to the Norton Lancers in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional semifinals, Thursday at Stonehill College in Easton.

Never having won two playoff games or advancing to the semifinals, MV came up short, sending seven seniors off to the next stages in their lives and careers with at least three hoping to play college baseball.

The Vineyarders (14-8), ranked seventh in the South, had baserunners throughout the game, but could not bring them home against the third-seeded Lancers (18-7). The teams split their regular-season series, with each team winning at home.

Taber Caron knocked in the lone Vineyard run with a two-out single in the second inning, scoring Mitchell Chaves, who had singled and advanced to second on a Theo Gallagher walk.

Elias Fhagen-Smith was 2-4, with a single, a double, and a stolen base.

Vineyard starter Jonas Lukowitz went the distance on the mound, giving up eight hits and four earned runs, while striking out five, walking none, and hitting three batters.
