Victoria Scott and Lizzie Williamson, the first doubles pairing on the MVRHS girls tennis team and the defending state champs, won the MIAA Individual Tournament South Sectional championship on Sunday at Old Rochester Regional High School in Mattapoisett.

Scott and Williamson, the top seeds, defeated third-seeded Katie Merport and Emily Wen of Sharon High School, 6-0, 6-1, to advance to the Individual State Tournament on June 17 at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury.

The entire MVRHS girls tennis varsity lineup took part in this year’s individual tourney. Molly and Paige Pogue, the Vineyard second doubles tandem, reached the quarterfinals before losing to top-ranked Makenna Sargis and Ava Dooley of Notre Dame Academy (Hingham), 6-3, 6-0.

In the singles competition at Tabor Academy in Marion, fourth-seeded Kat Roberts lost at first singles to top-seeded Lexi Dewire of Hingham High, 6-1, 6-1, and second singles Kelly Klaren fell in the round of 16 to Apponequet’s Leanne Kendall, the eventual South Sectional champ, 6-2, 6-2. Hannah Rabasca lost her third-round match at third singles on May 13 to Sophia Prinos of Foxborough.
