The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) boys tennis team turned in another impressive performance on Friday at the Ned Fennessy Courts in Oak Bluffs with a 5-0 Eastern Athletic Conference (EAC) win over the Somerset Berkley Raiders.
Zak Danz downed Chase Franco at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, second singles Nainoa Cooperrider defeated Danny Botelho 6-1, 6-1, and Chris Ferry topped Devon Verona at third singles 6-0, 6-0. James Kelliher and Ben Nadelstein rolled to a 6-1, 6-0, first doubles win over Chris Bourassa and Pat O’Neill, while Garrett Zeilinger and Dave Krauthamer completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1, second doubles win against Geoff Lonza and Devin Barros.
Coming off a grueling three-hour victory at Bishop Feehan on May 17, the Vineyarders (10-1 overall, 6-0 EAC) needed less than an hour to defeat the Raiders and pick up their second league win in three days.
“The team is doing very well, and we have some tough matches ahead. Out of our last four, we have three very challenging matches,” Vineyard Coach William Rigali said after the Somerset win. “The kids showed a lot of grit and a lot of courage up at Feehan in the heat. It was about a three-hour match, 3-2, so we’re happy with where we are right now.”
