On Wednesday, May 24, at 5 pm at the Chilmark library, Carolyn Stoeber will discuss the PeaceQuilts project. According to a press release, following the presentation Ms. Stoeber will have quilts and other items available for sale. Each purchase helps support member-owned sewing cooperatives in Haiti, where women create beautiful, artisan-made products, as well as striking one-of-a-kind original folk art quilts — all inspired by Haiti’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
PeaceQuilts, a 501(c)(3) economic development project, provides equipment, supplies, training, educational opportunities, and other support to help Haitian women earn a living wage — to feed their families, improve their housing, and educate their children.
Admission is free. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Chilmark Public Library. Call 508-645-3360 for more information. To learn more about PeaceQuilts, go to haitipeacequilts.org.
