For the first time in its 20-year history, the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School has middle school girls varsity and junior varsity basketball teams. Athletic director and physical education teacher Tim Penicaud attributes the development to several factors. “Two of our eighth grade girls are important players on the all-Island eighth grade travel team. They have mentored and inspired their classmates to join together to form our team. We now have the numbers to form both girls and boys teams. Having a new outdoor court helps, too,” Mr. Penicaud said.
