At the annual meeting of the Cape and Islands Democratic Council, Sandy Milano, a Democratic town committee member from Yarmouth, was elected president of the board. According to a press release, given the priorities and policies of the Trump administration, Ms. Milano vows to lead with “humanity and compassion” to fight for fairness and social justice by participating in elections at every level of government and advocating for issues that matter to Democrats on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
“As a proud Democrat, here are a few things I know — we are the party of inclusion, and now, more than ever, our community needs to understand that we will fight the good fight. Our fight is for fairness and social justice in all aspects of our lives,” said Ms. Milano. “We are on the right side of history here. We need to stand up and be heard, but even more, we need to participate, educate, and advocate for the values we hold dear.”
Ms. Milano is a small business owner who is active in her community and local politics. She has been a member of the Yarmouth Democratic Town Committee since 2013, participated in fieldwork for former Attorney General Martha Coakley’s 2014 gubernatorial race, and was a key member of State Senator Julian Cyr’s kitchen cabinet during his recent campaign. Ms. Milano also spent a decade volunteering for the Boston Pops’ “Pops by the Sea” annual Cape Cod concert.
Ms. Milano is joined by a newly elected 21-member committee of Democrats who represent the district from Provincetown to Oak Bluffs. Members of her executive team include immediate past president Robert Isadore, Yarmouth; Upper Cape vice president Lou Cerrone, Sandwich; Mid-Cape vice president Susan Rohrbach, Centerville; Lower Cape vice president Dave Schropher, Eastham; Islands vice president Leon Brathwaite, Oak Bluffs; treasurer Ian Ryan, Harwich; assistant treasurer Bob Samoluk, Dennis; and secretary Katie Jacobs, Brewster.
