A monthlong, statewide campaign to raise awareness about violence against women, as well as all other sorts of gender-based violence, began March 1. Dukes County Sheriff Robert W. Ogden joined forces with Middlesex County Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian to mark Raise a White Ribbon Flag Day, whose message is, “We do not tolerate or condone men’s violence toward women, children, or other men.”
Throughout the month, men across the state will be asked to support the effort by encouraging others in their organizations, families, and workplaces to wear a white ribbon, to place a poster at their workplaces, to spread the word about the campaign and its aims, to organize local events to speak out against violence, and and to challenge attitudes and behaviors which condone or tolerate violence, Sheriff Ogden explained in a press statement.
