On Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 from 1 to 3 pm, Middletown Nursery invites the public to “Herbal Tasting, Talk and Walk with Heidi Schmidt.” Founder of Vineyard Sound Herbs, herbalist, plant ecologist, and organic grower of culinary and medicinal plants for 30 years, Heidi Schmidt will be leading this class.
On Saturday, September 19 at 1 pm start by enjoying some tea tastings. Heidi will also share some of her homemade lemon balm bread, and wild and garden seed crackers, along with recipes. Take a walk through the Nursery’s herb section and learn all about the properties of herbs and the best ways to plant them. Afterwards, visit the Nursery’s store to sample Heidi’s Vineyard Sound Herb products to help you through the winter and all year long.
On Sunday, September 20 at 1 pm meet back at Middletown Nursery for a quick cup of tea and then carpool to the second location (only 2 miles away from our nursery), where you will walk around the old Vineyard Sound Herbs herbal field and end the walk at Heidi’s herb studio. Enjoy some light refreshments at the herb studio.
During this two-day event, you will learn all about the herbs that can be harvested (in your garden, field, forest and/or beach) in the late summer and early fall. Heidi will show you how to prepare your herb garden for the winter months. Learn all about vinegars and how they are great for the body, and are perfect to use on salads and veggies to get your daily dose. She will also discuss one of the most important topics on Martha’s Vineyard, tick-borne illnesses. Learn how to armor yourself with herbs to help fight against this very serious problem.
