To the Editor:
On the Fourth of July, my deck collapsed, with approximately 20 people on it watching the fireworks. Immediately 911 was called. It took four minutes for the first emergency-service responders to arrive. It was amazing. Calmness prevailed, thanks to a group of dedicated, wonderful people. They were not just efficient, but kind and compassionate. Many people were taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and treated, but it could have been so much worse. Every day we think of other scenarios that could have occurred.
I am so thankful and proud to be a part of this community of wonderful, caring people. We are all blessed. Thank you so very much.
