To the Editor:
On behalf of everyone at Alex’s Place at the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, I want to offer our gratitude to the lovely and talented Dana Williams for her recent benefit performance in the Base at Alex’s Place. It is through the kindness of people such as Dana that we are able to raise funds to help us continue our winter programming for Island teens. Not only did she perform, but she asked two companies to donate goods as well, which will help us continue our music and podcasting programs.
Godin Guitars from Canada donated a gorgeous handcrafted acoustic guitar with such rich sound we cannot wait to hear it on our stage. In addition, 1K MultiMedia donated 5 IRig microphone sets for podcasting and other live recording, which teens will be able to use to create stories and vignettes to be broadcast on our soon-to-be-created podcast station.
This type of kindness is what makes Alex’s Place so special. It belongs to the community, and will continue to strive to provide safe, positive activities not only for teens but for people of all ages. There are still many more performances happening this summer, and we hope you will join us for one or more. Each person’s attendance helps build the funds we need to do all of the diverse and creative program we provide to so many teens throughout the off-season.
We invite you to stop by and see our space and learn about how Alex’s Place came to be. We are also deeply grateful to the many other donors, such as the Alexandra MM Gagnon Foundation for the creation of the space as a memorial to Alexandra Gagnon, and to Comcast for its unwavering support of all our digital literacy efforts, including all of the technology used in the Base to create the shows we hope you continue to enjoy. For more info, please visit our website at alexsplace.net. And thank you to Deborah Williams for helping make all of this possible. Building a bridge between our kids and the community is what Alex’s Place is all about, and so we value your input and support.
