Matt Gamache of Vineyard Haven and Dick Carlson of Oak Bluffs competed in the “May Flowers” skeet competition Sunday, held at Massapoag Sportsmen’s Club in Sharon amid intermittent rain and heavy overcast. The event in 12-gauge and 20-gauge consisted of 100 clay targets, and ended well for the Vineyarders. Matt broke 94 of 100, and tied for first place in B class, but slipped to second after a shoot-off. Dick won A class and the championship by breaking 98 of 100 targets in the 12-gauge field and he used his 20-gauge shotgun to do it. The pair, along with other Island skeet shooters, will next compete in the 4 by 50 held in East Warren, R.I., on May 7.
