To the Editor:
The Gay Head 10K Committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make the third annual Gay Head 10K, a Race for the Light, a success.
The race would not have been possible without our generous and supportive sponsors, Cronig’s Market, Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, Landscope, Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank, Pomroy Associates, Seaside Celebration Tents, Thunderbird Industries, Tilton Rentals, Flanders Up-Island Real Estate, Martha’s Vineyard Insurance, Our Market, South Mountain Co., Vineyard Pool & Spa, ABC Disposal, Edgartown Inn, Larsen’s Fish Market, Vineyard Scripts, Offshore Ale, Chilmark Coffee, Coca Cola of Martha’s Vineyard, Island Source, Hayes Design Studio, Martha’s Vineyard Screen Printing, Orange Peel Bakery, Stop and Shop, 7A Foods, Phillips Hardware, Laughing Bear, and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).
Volunteers came from throughout the Island and included the Aquinnah Police and Fire Departments, Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), police officers from Chilmark, West Tisbury, Oak Bluffs, and Edgartown, Tri-Town Ambulance, MVRHS Cross Country Team, and anyone else we may have inadvertently missed.
Joe and Marylee Schroeder added a wealth of information and help up to and during the race, as did Hugh Weissman, Bill Brown, Mike McCourt, and Jen Passafiume. And the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce also rallied for our cause.
We would also like to extend special thanks to the Aquinnah Police Department, especially Chief Randhi Belain, and to Jay Smalley, Frank Perez, Dominic Mahfuz, and their crew. And also a big thank-you to Christian and Ian from Seaside Celebration Tents, for going above and beyond in dealing with the wind situation and finding a suitable location for the tent.
And, of course, many thanks to all the runners for coming out on this cold and windy morning; without your participation, this could never have happened.
