The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School girls basketball team lost to the St. Mary’s HIgh Spartans Sunday in the sixth and final game of the Spartan Classic girls’ basketball tournament, in overtime, 67-56.
There were numerous lead changes. The Vineyard was up by five points after the first quarter, and down 31-29 going into halftime.
The Vineyarders were ahead most of the third quarter, but the Spartans had a 40-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
A Spartan free throw tied the game at 54-54. Martha’s Vineyard was only able to wring out two points the entire overtime period from the Spartan’s stifling defense.
Vineyard junior forward Erin Hill scored her 1,000th career point Sunday night, and led the Vineyarders with 28 points.
