The MacDowell Colony presents a special evening with a private dinner and a staged reading of the new play “Caveat Emptor” by playwright Boo Killebrew at ArtCliff Diner and Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse as part of its Monday Night Specials series on Monday, July 9, at 5:30 pm in Vineyard Haven. According to a press release, Killebrew, a MacDowell Fellow, will join supporters for a private dinner and drinks before the reading to raise funds for the contemporary arts program. She will then take part in a talkback and a post-show reception.
Killebrew, who was in residence at MacDowell in the fall of 2014, is a playwright, actress, and co-founder of Collaboration Town Theatre Company. She was a Lila Acheson Playwriting Fellow at the Juilliard School, and the recipient of the Paula Vogel Award at the Vineyard Theater. She is an alumni of the Emerging Writers Group at the Public Theater, a recipient of a NYFA Fellowship, an Edward F. Albee Foundation Fellow, a Usual Suspect with New York Theater Workshop, and a resident with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
“Caveat Emptor” follows singer Jackie and her musician boyfriend Pete, who are broke, struggling, and pushing 40. When Jackie strikes up an unlikely friendship with a prosperous elderly neighbor, Pete sees an opportunity. Jackie sees something else. “Caveat Emptor” is a bittersweet comedy about love and redemption. For more information, visit mvplayhouse.org.
