The Island Grown Initiative mobile market hit the road to start its second season on Monday, bringing fresh produce at wholesale prices directly to local neighborhoods. Last summer, through funding from the Department of Agricultural Resources, the mobile market was created.
Based on feedback from customers, the schedule and locations of the market have changed.
The market relies on the support of local farms in order to purchase wholesale produce and deliver it at wholesale prices to customers. This year, the market features produce from Morning Glory Farm, Beetlebung Farm, Slough Farm, Peter Palches Blueberries, and the Farm Hub at Thimble Farm. It now also carries local eggs and honey. The market accepts cash, credit cards, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, Healthy Incentives Program benefits, Women Infants and Children benefits, and Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program coupons.
