Fire damages Edgartown house

Two people were injured, one of them a firefighter, at an early morning fire on Pilgrim Road in Edgartown, according an Edgartown Fire Department press release.

Edgartown police and fire departments responded to a call at 2:04 am that a person was trapped on the second floor of the house.

When emergency responders arrived, there was heavy fire showing on the exterior of the building from the second floor. The occupants who were trapped were able to get out of the house, according to the release.

Firefighters from Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury responded for mutual support and a second alarm called in Tisbury firefighters, as well, the release states.

Ambulances from Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Tisbury were used to evaluate the occupants and rehab the firefighters after their assignments, the release states. The fire was knocked down quickly but the contents of the home appear to be a total loss.

One person from the house was transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with minor injuries. A firefighter was taken to the hospital with symptoms related to exhaustion and another treated and released at the scene. The cause is yet to be determined and will be under investigation.
