New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand will speak at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual spring breakfast at the Dunes at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort on Tuesday, May 2, from 8:30 to 10 am. The Nantucket resident will talk about how she researches topics for her books, her writing process, and how she’s developed her brand.
Before moving to the other island in the early ’90s, Ms. Hilderbrand spent her summers on Cape Cod. When she was 16, her father died in a plane crash, and the family stopped vacationing. Subsequent summers were spent working in a factory that made Halloween costumes. Ms. Hilderbrand decided that for the rest of her life, she would have a real summer. After attending Johns Hopkins University, she became the “classified ads girl” for a local Nantucket paper, and she started working on her writing.
Ms. Hilderbrand’s new book, “The Identicals,” tells the story of Harper and Tabitha Frost, identical twins who could not be more different. They’ve been living apart on the two Islands — Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket — but events one summer force them together. Can they overcome their years-old rivalry and save their splintering family? Ms. Hilderbrand’s 20th novel will be released on June 13, just in time to read it on the beach and find out.
Tickets for the breakfast are $35 for Chamber of Commerce members and $45 for the public. They can be purchased online at MVY.com or by calling 508-693-0085.
