The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) baseball team came up a run short in the season opener, falling 3-2 to the host Norton Lancers on a walk-off single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Lancers led 1-0 after one inning, but the Vineyarders came back with two runs in the third. Mike Habekost drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, took third on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Fiore, and scored on a ground ball error after Jonas Lukowitz put the ball in play. Lukowitz scored the go-ahead run, following an Elias Fhagen-Smith walk and an Aidan Aliberti sacrifice bunt.

Norton tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the sixth.

Vineyard starting pitcher James Sashin yielded two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out six and walking two in six innings of work.

Jonas Lukowitz was 2-4 with two singles, an RBI, one run scored, and three stolen bases. Aidan Aliberti had a double and an RBI.
