On Saturday, March 4, MVYH’s Squirt Smythe Mariners traveled to the University of Rhode Island to take on the third-seeded Jr. Rams in the first round of the Southern New England Hockey Conference playoffs. The Mariners upset the Rams, winning 6-5 in overtime.

Liam Conley scored the Mariners’ first four goals, with assists by his brother Aiden Conley and Frankie Paciello. Paciello scored the Mariners’ final two goals, including the game winner with 2:32 remaining in overtime.

Goaltender Adrian Alberghini was solid in the net throughout the close, competitive game. Alberghini was well supported by defensemen Nate Averill, Cal D’Arcy, Chase Toomey, and Jonah Saunier. They prevented the Rams from capitalizing on a power play in the final minutes of overtime.

Luke Silvia, Cole Lambert, and Volkert Kleeman helped to keep the puck in the offensive zone, contributing to the Mariners’ thrilling victory. The Mariners will face the top-ranked Greater Providence Bears in the semifinals this Saturday in Rhode Island.
