To the Editor:
On Saturday, Nov. 14, at around 11 am, I was driving on Barnes Road near the Edgartown transfer station when an irresponsible individual driving a dump truck of sorts lost one of the acrylic chairs he was taking to the dump. The chair flew into my windshield, shattering it to pieces, and the driver kept going.
I was very distraught, and consider myself a lucky man to be alive and well, as the outcome could have been very different.
Situations such as the one I encountered on Saturday happen a lot on the Island. Cars and trucks travel around on our roads with objects that aren’t properly and safely secured. Because we all know one another, nothing ever happens.
I called the Edgartown police, and I am hopeful that the individual responsible will own up to his responsibility. I also hope that folks will begin to be conscientious about how they carry items in their cars and trucks so as not to endanger other people.
Please notify the Edgartown Police if you have any information about the driver of the truck that did not stop.
