The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) girls and boys swim teams concluded a grueling stretch of five meets in seven days with a loss to powerhouse Bishop Stang.
The Vineyard girl swimmers produced the highlights of the meet, with co-captain Renee Goodale making school history, again, by qualifying for a fourth event at the South Sectionals with a dramatic come-from-behind win in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:48.52. Last week against New Bedford, Goodale became the first MVRHS swimmer to qualify for three events at South Sectionals meet. Goodale also won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.36.
Lia Potter won the 100-yard butterfly with a personal best of time of 1:04.93, which qualified her for the upcoming Division 2 state meet at Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7 pm.
The girls lost 79-63, and the boys lost 82-47.
