The following letter was received from the office of State Senator Dan Wolf.

To the Editor:

Serving as State Senator from the Cape and Islands has been one of the great honors and experiences of my life. My decision not to run for a fourth term was one of the most difficult I’ve made.

Six years ago I ran for this office on the foundation of decades of civic participation, with the belief that working together, we can build an economy that better serves us all, while protecting our environment for generations to come. For me, civic engagement includes elective office, but it encompasses much more. I have learned this working with so many great people over the years. My commitment to continue the fight is as strong as ever; after next year, it will take new forms.

To my family for their support, shared values and vision, thank you.

To my friends and staff for their inspiration, camaraderie, and tireless effort, thank you.

To my colleagues in the State House, elected officials, and public employees at every level of government, for reaffirming the ethic of public service while helping me understand the strength of our democracy, what’s working and what isn’t, thank you.

To my Cape Air family for allowing me to share our creativity, collaboration, and success, thank you.

And most of all, my deepest gratitude to the citizens of the Cape, the Islands, and the Commonwealth for offering me the greatest gift of all: the opportunity to serve others.
